Memo to the President

The trees hold their branches out to you, sir.
The stones offer up their cups full of silence.
Two fox cubs in a den
look towards each other at the first
tremors of the approaching bulldozer,
as an economist in the news paper column
predicts in the manner of fact --"we'll just
have to learn to live without nature."

The trees hold their branches out to you, sir.
