I look down
Upon the world,
Spread below me
In the setting sun.
Out of the shadowy forest
Winds the road
by which I came,
Deserted.
Even as I gaze.
A bank of cloud
Sweeps down,
And, at a stroke,
Blots out the world.
But far above me,
In the sun's last rays,
Still gleams
the topmost peak
